Supporting On The Rocks Internet Radio
Help support this not-for-profit Internet-only Radio station today with a cash donation (coffee or caviar ... once a month or once forever ... the amount and how often you donate is your call). Enjoy your favorite station knowing that your contribution is helping make it even better! For some background on why we ask listeners for support, we offer the following Q-A section... What about the banner ads on the web player and the audio ads carried in the regular channel program stream? Don't they earn enough to pay for everything? These ads are sold, scheduled and inserted exclusively by our broadcast service provider Live365. We do not have direct control over the ads and do not get paid for carrying them. While the revenue from the ads may cover some of Live365's back end costs, it's not nearly enough to pay for "everything." (See the next question...) Do broadcasters have to pay for the Live365 broadcast services they use? Yes. Live365 charges their member broadcasters periodic fees. The amount is effectively based on each station's respective storage and maximum listener capacity. It should be noted that even though Live365's rates are very economical for this type of service, these fees are recurring and add up over time! Do Live365 broadcasters have to purchase the music their stations play? Yes - at least for the most part. Live365 Broadcasters must play music they have either purchased themselves or legally acquired (such as a free promotional download or CD from an artist, publicist or record label) Live365 does maintain an impressive library of music that server-based broadcasters may freely insert in their playlists. Unfortunately, conflicting production and technical standards that result from our dedication to sending out the best broadcast audio possible prevent this station from being able to make use of this content. Are the artists and copyright holders paid for the use of their music? Yes. Live365 pays both artists and copyright holders for the right to broadcast their music recordings over the Internet. These payments are not small. They are in fact, collectively high enough to account for a significant portion of the broadcaster fees. As a fully legal U.S. based Internet broadcaster, Live365 is licensed by ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC, and is a statutory licensee of Sound Exchange. By supporting this station, you are supporting the artists we play! Are there other ways to support the broadcast besides making a donation? Yes. Listen to our broadcast as a Live365 Preferred Member. We receive a one-time payment for each new PM sign-up made from a link on our station page or web site. Live365 also credits us by a predetermined amount for each hour of listening by a Preferred Member that has selected this station as their "favorite" (go to www.live365.com, log-in and click the "Favorites" tab). Another way is to make a purchase from our Logo Merchandise Store which features several On The Rocks signature apparel and household items. By making a purchase, you'll not only be supporting the station, but you'll have some cool new stuff that expresses your "classic" taste in music! How will my support affect what I hear over the station? Your contributions go directly toward the purchase of more library storage space, listener capacity and music. The spin offs of this include a better ability to respond to play suggestions and also more frequent music updates. Thank-you for your consideration and for taking the time to read this information!
